What sort of careers exist if you do our Certificate IV in Justice Studies, or our Certificate IV in Government Investigations? This one!   Here’s a great entry level role with the Australian Border Force as an initial recruit, where (over a 12 month program) you may be doing a mix between classroom-based and on-the-job rotational training, including:  
  • processing passengers at an air or seaport
  • clearing cargo at an air or sea port
  • x-raying, investigating and clearing mail at a clearance centre
  • working at a district office in remote locations
  • investigating illegal border activity​
  • locating and detaining unlawful non-citizens.
    About the role  On successful completion of the training you will graduate as a Border Force Officer (BFO). As a BFO you will manage the security and integrity of Australia’s borders. You will work closely with other government and international agencies to detect and deter the unlawful movement of goods and people across the border. The ABF operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In most states BFOs will be required to undertake shift work as part of their role. Busy periods tend to align with peak travel periods, including school holidays and Australian events. Here’s a great role advertised in NSW in a number of different areas. As a Biosecurity Officer you’ll undertake field and regulatory activities to support programs and advisory services and also be involved in both invasive pest animal and animal biosecurity functional areas.   To be successful in this role, you will be passionate about animal and plant biosecurity.  You will be required to engage with producers and other stakeholders to communicate sound advice and apply appropriate regulations as they relate to relevant biosecurity functions including a willingness to become accredited under relevant legislation.     You must work well within a team, but also be able to work independently and. You will be required to balance conflicting priorities in an environment which is technically complex and often unpredictable, particularly where emergency situations can take precedence over planned activities.     If you are passionate about working with animals and assisting local communities manage biosecurity risks and emergency situations, then we want to hear from you.  You’ll also need to have a current NSW Driver Licence, and the capacity and willingness to travel throughout the region as required.     You will hold appropriate qualifications relevant to pesticide application and hold a certificate IV in Government Investigations, or ability to successfully complete same.     You will require capacity to hold a NSW firearms license or equivalent, and a Statement of Attainment (to Use Firearms to humanely destroy animals AQF AHCVPT203A, AHCPMG304) and be appointed as an Authorised Officer under the Biosecurity Act.

You'll need a thick skin though; dealing with prisoners can be challenging.   These particular roles in Queensland are offering a $7000 relocation package!  Check them out!   What type of work will I do in the CCO role? Custodial Correctional Officers (CCO) play a vital role in the operations of Correctional Centres across Queensland. The role of a CCO is dynamic and varied. You can be managing prisoner movements one day to assisting them through their rehabilitation pathway the next. There are also opportunities to work in different specialist areas within our centres.
