Border Force Recruit – Generalist
What sort of careers exist if you do our Certificate IV in Justice Studies, or our Certificate IV in Government Investigations? This one!
Here’s a great entry level role with the Australian Border Force as an initial recruit, where (over a 12 month program) you may be doing a mix between classroom-based and on-the-job rotational training, including:
- processing passengers at an air or seaport
- clearing cargo at an air or sea port
- x-raying, investigating and clearing mail at a clearance centre
- working at a district office in remote locations
- investigating illegal border activity
- locating and detaining unlawful non-citizens.
About the role
On successful completion of the training you will graduate as a Border Force Officer (BFO). As a BFO you will manage the security and integrity of Australia’s borders. You will work closely with other government and international agencies to detect and deter the unlawful movement of goods and people across the border.
The ABF operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In most states BFOs will be required to undertake shift work as part of their role. Busy periods tend to align with peak travel periods, including school holidays and Australian events. Opportunities for officers to take leave during peak periods may be limited.
