Get Your Unique Student Identifier (USI)
To start any nationally recognised certificate course in Australia, you’ll need a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This ensures your training records and qualifications are stored in a single, secure location that you can access for life. Short courses and professional development programs don’t require a USI.
What is a Unique Student Identifier (USI)
- It’s your lifelong student ID number, issued once and used for all future training.
- A USI is required whenever you enrol in a nationally recognised certificate-level course in Australia.
- It keeps all of your training records, results, and qualifications stored securely in one place, so you can access them anytime.
Why Do I Need a USI?
Required to enrol in all nationally recognised certificate level courses
Ensures all results and certificates are accessible online, anytime
Protects your training history by keeping it in one secure place
Helps employers and training providers verify qualifications
How to Get or Recover your USI
Getting your Unique Student Identifier (USI) is quick, free, and only takes a few minutes. If you’ve studied in Australia before, you may already have one. If not, you’ll need to register before enrolling in any nationally recognised certificate course.
Recover your USI. If you’ve studied before and can’t remember your USI, simply recover it online. You’ll just need a few personal details to confirm your identity.
Register a new USI. If this is your first time enrolling in a certificate-level course, you’ll need to register for a new USI using ID such as a Medicare card, driver’s licence, or passport.
Once you have your USI, keep it safe, you’ll use it every time you enrol in nationally recognised training.
